About
About Parlour Shadow
The x-height is a compact 70.6% of the cap height, below the 76.2% median for display fonts, lower than 85 of the 97 other display fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (100% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 29.4% of the cap height below the baseline, deeper than 93 of the 97 other display fonts. It sets narrow: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 80.9% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 89.1%), 9.5% less than the median for display fonts, so more words fit on a line. The o is close to a circle, 1.05 times as wide as it is tall, and M and W are the widest capitals, at 1.09 times the width of H. The O tops out level with H and stands 1.2% above the baseline.
Ink covers 33.5% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), lighter than 74 of the 97 other display fonts. Each letter carries a drop shadow, kept apart from it by a small gap.
Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 31.5% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 5.2% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 231 kerning pairs, more than 85 of the 97 other display fonts. The tightest of them is VA, which closes up by 26% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Parlour Shadow will not line up exactly.
Parlour Shadow is drawn on the same letter structure as 5 other fonts in the library. Compared with Parlour Shadow, Monument 3D adds a 3D extrusion. Gold Rush Roman adds Tuscan spurs. Diner Roman keeps the letters plain, without the shadow effect and sets 8% wider.
Measured from the version 0.1.0 font file. Comparisons are with the 314 library fonts measured on October 2, 2026, 98 of them display fonts.
