About
About Sheriff Shadow
Its x-height is 78.1% of the cap height, near the 76.2% typical of display fonts in the library, taller than 62 of the 97 other display fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l rise 3.3% above the capitals, and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 23% of the cap height below the baseline, shallower than 59 of the 97 other display fonts. It sets narrow: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 81.7% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 93.5%), 8.6% less than the median for display fonts, so more words fit on a line. The o is close to a circle, 0.98 times as wide as it is tall, and W is the widest capital, at 1.40 times the width of H. Round letters overshoot: O rises 1.1% of the cap height above H and dips 1.3% below the baseline.
Ink covers 44% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), darker than 57 of the 97 other display fonts. Each letter carries a drop shadow, kept apart from it by a small gap.
Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 32.1% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 5.8% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 272 kerning pairs, more than 91 of the 97 other display fonts. The tightest of them is VA, which closes up by 29.1% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Sheriff Shadow will not line up exactly.
Sheriff Shadow is drawn on the same letter structure as 10 other fonts in the library. Compared with Sheriff Shadow, Dispatch Mono keeps the letters plain, without the shadow effect and puts down 43% less ink. Dispatch Italic keeps the letters plain, without the shadow effect and puts down 43% less ink. Slime Slab adds paint drips and sets 14% wider.
Measured from the version 0.1.0 font file. Comparisons are with the 314 library fonts measured on October 2, 2026, 98 of them display fonts.
