Zany Comic

With an x-height of 79.7% of the cap height, its lowercase stands above the 73.3% median for handwriting fonts, taller than 20 of the 21 other handwriting fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (99.7% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 27.5% of the cap height below the baseline, deeper than 14 of the 21 other handwriting fonts. It sets narrow: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 70.9% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 80.9%), 5.2% less than the median for handwriting fonts, so more words fit on a line. The o is an upright oval, 0.91 times as wide as it is tall, and W is the widest capital, at 1.13 times the width of H. The O rises 4% of the cap height above H and stands 6.7% above the baseline.

Vertical stems measure 12.7% of the cap height, lighter than 8 of the 11 other handwriting fonts. Ink covers 35.5% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), lighter than 12 of the 21 other handwriting fonts.

Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 32.2% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 9.7% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 133 kerning pairs, more than 18 of the 21 other handwriting fonts. The tightest of them is YA, which closes up by 21.4% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Zany Comic will not line up exactly.

Zany Comic is drawn on the same letter structure as 8 other fonts in the library. Compared with Zany Comic, Kapow 3D adds a 3D extrusion, sets 8% wider and puts down 21% more ink. Panel Comic has a 73% x-height. Gag Shadow adds a separate drop shadow, sets 6% wider and puts down 16% more ink.
