Calligraphy Fonts

Pen-made letters with deliberate thick and thin strokes, from formal pointed-pen scripts to broad-nib shapes. Use them for invitations, quotes and names you want to feel lettered by hand.

What these 13 calligraphy fonts share, and where they differ

By structure they are mixed: 12 script and 1 decorative, out of 13 in all. Script Fonts shares the most with this page: its script fonts make up 12 of the 13, more than half of the page. None of the 13 is in the free download collection yet: anyone can preview and test each one, and downloading takes a Pro or Studio plan or a Font Pass pick. Weights are not where these calligraphy fonts differ: all 13 come as one Regular style each. Besides calligraphy, the library most often files these fonts as tattoo (13), cursive (12), fancy (9) and formal (7). 12 of them come in 3 groups drawn on a shared letter structure; the largest includes Bouquet Script, Gala Script and Soiree Script, which differ in effect, slant or width rather than in their basic letter shapes.

Soiree Script leans the most, about 21°; across the calligraphy fonts with a measurable angle, 3 of 4 lean right with a median of 21° and 1 stands upright; the other 9 have strokes too varied to give one angle. From narrowest to widest, Soiree Script sets an average lowercase letter at 56.5% of the cap height and Noel Copper at 78.2%, 1.4 times as wide. For the calligraphy fonts as a group the median is 70.8%, 12% narrower than the 80.9% median of the whole library, so more words fit on a line than in an average library font. Lowercase x-heights of these calligraphy fonts sit between 45.7% and 74.6% of the cap height, with a median of 47.9%; the library median is 71.5%. How dark a line of these calligraphy fonts looks ranges from 22.2% ink coverage in Noel Copper up to 39.3% in Crest Fraktur; the median here, 25.8%, is 25% lighter than the library's 34.2%. The look comes from the letterforms alone: none of these fonts adds an outline, a shadow or a 3D side.

Every measured font here covers the Latin alphabet only; character sets run to exactly 148. Each one includes accented Latin letters beyond A to Z (a median of 53), enough for words like café, niño and Straße. Kerning is built in for all 13: a median of 51 adjusted letter pairs, up to 249 in Crest Fraktur. None has OpenType ligatures or alternates, and none has tabular figures, so columns of numbers will not align exactly.

Measured from the font files of 13 of the 13 fonts on this page: widths and heights are shares of the cap height. Library comparisons use the 363 library fonts measured on October 6, 2026.

Which calligraphy font to start with

  • For an upright option

Crest Fraktur stands upright where 3 of the 4 measured here lean, a calmer choice for signs and body lines.

  • For long words or tight spaces

Soiree Script sets an average lowercase letter at 56.5% of the cap height, 20% under this page's median, so more letters fit across a label or a sleeve.

  • For short, wide headlines

Noel Copper runs 10% wider than the page median (78.2% of the cap height per lowercase letter), which fills a banner with one or two words.

  • For small sizes

Lovers Brush has an x-height of 50.5% of the cap height, among the tallest here, so its lowercase stays legible on stickers, labels and phone screens.

  • 7 of these 13 also appear among the 13 fonts tagged wedding; its median letter is 7% narrower and 100% of its fonts lean, against 75% here.
  • 9 of these 13 also appear among the 20 fonts tagged both cursive and fancy; its median letter is 10% narrower and 100% of its fonts lean, against 75% here.
  • 12 of these 13 also appear among the 39 fonts tagged both cursive and tattoo; its median letter is 10% narrower and 100% of its fonts lean, against 75% here.

Questions about calligraphy fonts

Can I use these calligraphy fonts commercially?
Commercial use comes with a Pro or Studio plan. Fonts downloaded on either can go into logos, products, merchandise and client work, and keep that license after the plan ends. None of the 13 is in the free collection, so a free account can preview and test them but not download them. A Font Pass downloads 5 library fonts of your choice for personal use.
Which file formats do these calligraphy fonts come in?
On Pro and Studio each of the 13 downloads as TTF, OTF, WOFF and WOFF2; a free-collection download is the TTF. Every one is a single style, and their files hold 148 glyphs each. TTF and OTF install on Windows and macOS; WOFF2 is the one to load on a website.
Do these calligraphy fonts support languages other than English?
All of them are Latin fonts. Every measured one has accented Latin letters for languages such as French, Spanish and German. If a language is missing, Customize makes a copy of the font in your account, and Studio adds the letters it needs.
Can I make my own calligraphy font?
Yes. Describe it in the generator, or upload a picture of lettering you like, and AI draws a complete installable font you can then edit letter by letter in Studio. The 13 fonts here make a useful brief: most of them lean about 21° and have a shorter x-height than the library median (the median x-height is 47.9% of the cap height), so a prompt such as "a calligraphy font, slanted about 21°, small x-height" starts close to this page.
