Fieldhouse Block

With an x-height of 83.3% of the cap height, its lowercase stands above the 76.2% median for display fonts, taller than 96 of the 97 other display fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l rise 3% above the capitals, and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 20.9% of the cap height below the baseline, shallower than 74 of the 97 other display fonts. It sets wide: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 99.7% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 108.8%), 11.5% more than the median for display fonts, so the same words take a longer line. The o is close to a circle, 1.14 times as wide as it is tall, and W is the widest capital, at 1.23 times the width of H. Round letters overshoot: O rises 1% of the cap height above H and dips 1% below the baseline.

Ink covers 47.5% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), darker than 71 of the 97 other display fonts. Each solid letter is ringed by an outline with a clear gap between them, as on college lettering.

Its 2,575 characters include 2,401 Korean Hangul and 105 Latin letters, plus 69 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 34.3% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 15.3% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 55 kerning pairs, fewer than 58 of the 97 other display fonts. The tightest of them is AY, which closes up by 18% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Fieldhouse Block will not line up exactly.

Fieldhouse Block is drawn on the same letter structure as 12 other fonts in the library. Compared with Fieldhouse Block, Ballroom Inline cuts a thin line along each stroke, sets 7% narrower and has a 78% x-height. Grid Sans keeps the letters plain, without the varsity effect, sets 19% narrower and puts down 43% less ink. Orbit Outline draws the letters as hollow outlines, puts down 64% less ink and has a 79% x-height.
