About
About Frontier Tuscan
With an x-height of 77.6% of the cap height, its lowercase stands above the 74.5% median for decorative fonts, taller than 27 of the 35 other decorative fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l rise 3.4% above the capitals, and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 23.6% of the cap height below the baseline, shallower than 19 of the 35 other decorative fonts. It sets wide: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 81.6% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 93.7%), 7.1% more than the median for decorative fonts, so the same words take a longer line. The o is close to a circle, 0.98 times as wide as it is tall, and W is the widest capital, at 1.42 times the width of H. Round letters overshoot: O rises 1.1% of the cap height above H and dips 1.4% below the baseline.
The letters stand upright, with no measurable slant. Vertical stems measure 6.4% of the cap height, the lightest of all 23 decorative fonts. Ink covers 43.9% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), darker than 34 of the 35 other decorative fonts. The contrast is reversed: the tops and bottoms of o and O are 2.5 times as thick as their sides. Pointed spurs cross the middle of the straight strokes, in the Tuscan style.
Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 33.7% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 6.6% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 272 kerning pairs, more than 30 of the 35 other decorative fonts. The tightest of them is VA, which closes up by 29.3% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Frontier Tuscan will not line up exactly.
Frontier Tuscan is drawn on the same letter structure as 10 other fonts in the library. Compared with Frontier Tuscan, Racer Slab cuts horizontal stripes through the letters, leans about 10° and sets 15% wider. Sheriff Shadow adds a separate drop shadow. Dispatch Italic keeps the letters plain, without the Tuscan effect and puts down 43% less ink.
Measured from the version 0.1.0 font file. Comparisons are with the 314 library fonts measured on October 2, 2026, 36 of them decorative fonts.
