About
About Jersey Slab
Its lowercase is tall: the x-height is 81.6% of the cap height, against a median of 76.2% for display fonts, taller than 90 of the 97 other display fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l rise 3.2% above the capitals, and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 22.1% of the cap height below the baseline, shallower than 69 of the 97 other display fonts. Jersey Slab runs 19% wider than the median for display fonts: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 106.4% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 117.9%). The o is wider than it is tall, 1.19 to 1, and W is the widest capital, at 1.30 times the width of H. Round letters overshoot: O rises 1% of the cap height above H and dips 1% below the baseline.
Ink covers 46.6% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), darker than 66 of the 97 other display fonts. Each solid letter is ringed by an outline with a clear gap between them, as on college lettering.
Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 35.5% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 9.2% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 142 kerning pairs, more than 74 of the 97 other display fonts. The tightest of them is VA, which closes up by 30.5% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Jersey Slab will not line up exactly.
8 other library fonts share Jersey Slab's underlying letter structure. Compared with Jersey Slab, Station Slab keeps the letters plain, without the varsity effect and puts down 20% less ink. Mech Slab Outline draws the letters as hollow outlines and puts down 62% less ink. Headline Slab keeps the letters plain, without the varsity effect.
Measured from the version 0.1.0 font file. Comparisons are with the 314 library fonts measured on October 2, 2026, 98 of them display fonts.
