About
About Orb Pixel
Its x-height is 77.8% of the cap height, near the 78.9% typical of pixel fonts in the library, lower than 6 of the 11 other pixel fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (100% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 22.2% of the cap height below the baseline, deeper than 6 of the 11 other pixel fonts. Its letters are of average width for pixel fonts: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 81.1% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 91.8%), within 1.5% of the median. The o is close to a circle, 1.14 times as wide as it is tall, and O, Q and W are the widest capitals, at 1.23 times the width of H. O stands exactly as tall as H and sits on the baseline, with no overshoot.
The letters stand upright, with no measurable slant. Ink covers 34.4% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), darker than 9 of the 11 other pixel fonts. The contrast is mild: the sides of o and O are 1.50 times as thick as their tops and bottoms. The letters are built on a square pixel grid.
Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 34.8% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 11.6% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 168 kerning pairs, the most of all 12 pixel fonts. The tightest of them is LT, which closes up by 23.1% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Orb Pixel will not line up exactly.
Orb Pixel is drawn on the same letter structure as 19 other fonts in the library. Compared with Orb Pixel, Turbo Round cuts horizontal stripes through the letters, leans about 8° and sets 22% wider. Depot Round Stencil adds military stencil bridges and puts down 17% more ink. Goo Sans adds paint drips.
Measured from the version 0.1.0 font file. Comparisons are with the 314 library fonts measured on October 2, 2026, 12 of them pixel fonts.
