Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (97.9% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 29% of the cap height below the baseline, deeper than 18 of the 21 other handwriting fonts. Its letters are of average width for handwriting fonts: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 74.1% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 84.4%), within 0.9% of the median. The o is close to a circle, 0.99 times as wide as it is tall, and W is the widest capital, at 1.12 times the width of H. The O rises 2.1% of the cap height above H and stands 3.8% above the baseline.

Vertical stems measure 14.8% of the cap height, heavier than 6 of the 11 other handwriting fonts. Ink covers 37.8% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), darker than 13 of the 21 other handwriting fonts. Strokes keep nearly one thickness in every direction: the sides and the tops of o and O differ by 2%.

Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 33.3% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 10.7% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 137 kerning pairs, more than 19 of the 21 other handwriting fonts. The tightest of them is AY, which closes up by 21.9% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Panel Comic will not line up exactly.

Panel Comic is drawn on the same letter structure as 8 other fonts in the library. Compared with Panel Comic, Zany Comic has a 80% x-height. Sidekick Outline draws the letters as hollow outlines, sets 9% wider and puts down 65% less ink. Gag Shadow adds a separate drop shadow and adds Filipino, Malay, Albanian and 2 more languages.
