About
About Serif Flared Humanist
The x-height is a compact 65.8% of the cap height, below the 69.6% median for serif fonts, lower than 36 of the 39 other serif fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l rise 12.6% above the capitals, and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 28.1% of the cap height below the baseline, shallower than 24 of the 39 other serif fonts. It sets narrow: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 76.4% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 89.1%), 11.1% less than the median for serif fonts, so more words fit on a line. The o is close to a circle, 1.00 times as wide as it is tall, and no capital is wider than H. The O stops 7% of the cap height short of H and dips 1.1% below the baseline.
The letters stand upright, with no measurable slant. Ink covers 27% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), lighter than 25 of the 39 other serif fonts.
Its 95 characters include 52 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; there are no accented Latin letters beyond A to Z. The word space measures 50.4% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 13% of its width. The font carries no kerning, so spacing comes from each letter’s own side bearings. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Serif Flared Humanist will not line up exactly.
Measured from the version 0.3.0 font file. Comparisons are with the 314 library fonts measured on October 2, 2026, 40 of them serif fonts.
