Dense Cutout Playbill Letterforms
Serif Western Slab packs thick upright strokes into compact letters, with broad rectangular feet anchoring the line. The O has a rounded outer contour around a narrow vertical counter, so its dark sides dominate the shape. The E uses deep square openings between heavy arms, while the R carries a small upper counter and a short leg that bends outward into a blunt foot. Slightly softened joins keep these blocks from feeling entirely mechanical. The result is forceful, posterlike lettering with a restrained old print character, especially when repeated L feet form a strong baseline.
Test the font in your wording
Inspect repeated L feet, the R leg, and the narrow O counter in your actual wording at smaller and larger previews. Check punctuation and word gaps alongside the heavy capitals. These specimens establish Latin capital shapes; accented Latin and other scripts need separate coverage and rendering checks.
Font pairing roles
Try this face for short headings or badge names, supported by a lighter sans for descriptions and practical details. Its heavy terminals and narrow counters already supply strong texture, so a companion with open interiors could keep the supporting text visually distinct.

Compare the original spacing with a wider setting. The repeated L feet and broad terminals create a strong horizontal rhythm; added space separates those blocks, while tighter spacing makes the wording feel more like a single dark band.

Same wording · 40pxHELLO WORLD
In this uppercase phrase, Serif Western Slab has compact proportions, narrow vertical counters in O, and a straight H crossbar. Its thick strokes and small internal openings give the words a dense, compressed presence.
HELLO WORLD
In the same uppercase phrase, Lens Counter Slab spreads into broader rounded forms. A continuous black bridge divides each O counter into upper and lower openings, while the H crossbar swells into a lens shape. Those interior shapes give the lettering a more patterned rhythm.

How this page was made. Serif Western Slab is a FontGenerator library font made with AI; before release its letters were read back one by one by independent automated checks. The design notes were written by AI from the specimen images and checked against them by a second, independent pass; font measurements come from the font file. Preview sizes and spacing are comparison settings.

About
About Serif Western Slab
Its lowercase is tall: the x-height is 74.3% of the cap height, against a median of 69.6% for serif fonts, taller than 42 of the 51 other serif fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (101% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 16.1% of the cap height below the baseline, the shallowest of all 52 serif fonts. Serif Western Slab runs 6% narrower than the median for serif fonts: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 78.5% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 82.2%). The o is close to a circle, 0.93 times as wide as it is tall, and M is the widest capital, at 1.09 times the width of H. The O stops 2.7% of the cap height short of H and dips 1.1% below the baseline.
The letters stand upright, leaning less than 2.5° either way. Vertical stems measure 27.9% of the cap height, the heaviest of all 45 serif fonts. Ink covers 53.4% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), the darkest of all 52 serif fonts. Strokes change thickness with direction: the sides of o and O are 1.7 times as thick as their tops and bottoms.
Its 95 characters include 52 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; there are no accented Latin letters beyond A to Z. The word space measures 45.9% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 12.6% of its width. The font carries no kerning, so spacing comes from each letter’s own side bearings. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Serif Western Slab will not line up exactly.
Measured from the version 0.3.0 font file. Comparisons are with the 376 published library fonts measured on November 8, 2026, 52 of them serif fonts.
