Turbo Round

Turbo Round's lowercase x reaches 77.1% of the capital height, close to the 76.2% median for display fonts, taller than 51 of the 97 other display fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l rise 3.4% above the capitals, and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 24% of the cap height below the baseline, deeper than 51 of the 97 other display fonts. Turbo Round runs 11% wider than the median for display fonts: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 99.2% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 113.5%). The o is wider than it is tall, 1.29 to 1, and W is the widest capital, at 1.31 times the width of H. Round letters overshoot: O rises 1.1% of the cap height above H and dips 1.1% below the baseline.

The letters lean about 8° to the right, where most display fonts in the library stand upright. Ink covers 36.1% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), lighter than 67 of the 97 other display fonts. It is close to monoline, with the sides of o and O 1.14 times as thick as their tops and bottoms. Thin horizontal stripes cut through the lower half of each letter.

Its 3,329 characters include 2,967 Chinese, 170 Japanese kana and 105 Latin letters, plus 87 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 42.3% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 7.4% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 159 kerning pairs, more than 78 of the 97 other display fonts. The tightest of them is YA, which closes up by 30.3% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Turbo Round will not line up exactly.

19 other library fonts share Turbo Round's underlying letter structure. Compared with Turbo Round, Orb Pixel rebuilds the letters on a pixel grid, stands upright and sets 18% narrower. Giggle Sans keeps the letters plain, without the striped effect, stands upright and sets 10% narrower. Radio Deco cuts a thin line along each stroke, sets 13% narrower and has a 81% x-height.
