Bookface 3D

The x-height is a compact 71.8% of the cap height, below the 76.2% median for display fonts, lower than 76 of the 97 other display fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (100% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 28.3% of the cap height below the baseline, deeper than 82 of the 97 other display fonts. Its letters are of average width for display fonts: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 87.1% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 96.6%), within 2.6% of the median. The o is close to a circle, 1.09 times as wide as it is tall, and W is the widest capital, at 1.08 times the width of H. The O rises 1% of the cap height above H and sits on the baseline.

Ink covers 41.2% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), lighter than 50 of the 97 other display fonts. Each letter carries a solid 3D extrusion joined to its face.

Its 501 characters include 105 Latin, 73 Thai, 69 Greek, 67 Devanagari, 66 Cyrillic, 36 Arabic and 27 Hebrew letters, plus 58 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 33.6% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 6.4% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 280 kerning pairs, more than 96 of the 97 other display fonts. The tightest of them is VA, which closes up by 28.4% of the cap height. Its OpenType tables also hold Arabic joining forms (init, medi, fina), Devanagari conjuncts and vowel signs (half, rphf, blwf and more), mark positioning for accents and vowel signs (mark, mkmk), ligatures (liga, dlig) and glyph composition (ccmp, locl). The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Bookface 3D will not line up exactly.

Bookface 3D is drawn on the same letter structure as 13 other fonts in the library. Compared with Bookface 3D, Vampire Serif adds paint drips and sets 11% narrower. Newsreel Serif keeps the letters plain, without the 3D effect. Saga Serif keeps the letters plain, without the 3D effect, sets 8% wider and puts down 23% less ink.
