About
About Code Oblique
Code Oblique's lowercase x reaches 71.7% of the capital height, close to the 70.2% median for monospace fonts, taller than 12 of the 19 other monospace fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (99.9% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 29.4% of the cap height below the baseline, shallower than 13 of the 19 other monospace fonts. Its letters are of average width for monospace fonts: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 84.5% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 84.5%), within 1.7% of the median. The o is close to a circle, 1.03 times as wide as it is tall, and every capital has the same width. Round letters overshoot: O rises 2% of the cap height above H and dips 0.7% below the baseline.
The letters lean about 9° to the right, where most monospace fonts in the library stand upright. Ink covers 28.7% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), darker than 18 of the 19 other monospace fonts. It is close to monoline, with the sides of o and O 0.98 times as thick as their tops and bottoms.
Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 84.5% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 24.8% of its width. The font carries no kerning, so spacing comes from each letter’s own side bearings. All ten figures share one width, so columns of numbers line up.
3 other library fonts share Code Oblique's underlying letter structure. Compared with Code Oblique, Debug Duplex stands upright and puts down 25% less ink. Lambda Italic puts down 23% less ink. Stack Duplex stands upright, sets 6% narrower and puts down 16% less ink.
Measured from the version 0.1.0 font file. Comparisons are with the 314 library fonts measured on October 2, 2026, 20 of them monospace fonts.
