Doodle Outline

Its x-height is 73.2% of the cap height, near the 73.3% typical of handwriting fonts in the library, lower than 11 of the 21 other handwriting fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l stop at 96.5% of the capital height, and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 26.5% of the cap height below the baseline, deeper than 12 of the 21 other handwriting fonts. It sets wide: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 81.9% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 96.2%), 9.5% more than the median for handwriting fonts, so the same words take a longer line. The o is wider than it is tall, 1.16 to 1, and W is the widest capital, at 1.13 times the width of H. The O rises 3.1% of the cap height above H and sits on the baseline.

Ink covers 16.2% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), lighter than 19 of the 21 other handwriting fonts. The letters are hollow: every stroke is drawn as a thin outline band.

Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 35.1% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 14.6% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 80 kerning pairs, fewer than 13 of the 21 other handwriting fonts. The tightest of them is LY, which closes up by 24.7% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Doodle Outline will not line up exactly.

Doodle Outline is drawn on the same letter structure as one other font in the library. Compared with Doodle Outline, Doodle Bounce keeps the letters plain, without the outline effect, sets 15% narrower and puts down 65% more ink.
