Quirk Outline

Its lowercase is tall: the x-height is 76.6% of the cap height, against a median of 73.3% for handwriting fonts, taller than 19 of the 21 other handwriting fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (99.1% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 24.5% of the cap height below the baseline, shallower than 15 of the 21 other handwriting fonts. Quirk Outline runs 9.9% wider than the median for handwriting fonts: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 82.2% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 92.6%). The o is close to a circle, 1.09 times as wide as it is tall, and W is the widest capital, at 1.23 times the width of H. The O rises 2.9% of the cap height above H and stands 5% above the baseline.

Ink covers 13.4% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), level with the lightest of the 22 handwriting fonts. The letters are hollow: every stroke is drawn as a thin outline band.

Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 33.3% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 10.9% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 90 kerning pairs, fewer than 12 of the 21 other handwriting fonts. The tightest of them is Tz, which closes up by 21.9% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Quirk Outline will not line up exactly.

3 other library fonts share Quirk Outline's underlying letter structure. Compared with Quirk Outline, Wobble Print keeps the letters plain, without the outline effect and puts down 128% more ink.
