About

About Faceted Bowl Roman

Its lowercase sits low: the x-height is 67.9% of the cap height, where the median for serif fonts is 71.2%, lower than 61 of the 73 other serif fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l rise 5.4% above the capitals, and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 24.6% of the cap height below the baseline, shallower than 63 of the 73 other serif fonts. Its letters are of average width for serif fonts: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 81.9% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 94.5%), within 1.6% of the median. The o is close to a circle, 0.98 times as wide as it is tall, and M is the widest capital, at 1.17 times the width of H. The O tops out level with H and dips 1.1% below the baseline.

The letters stand upright, with no measurable slant. Vertical stems measure 17.9% of the cap height, heavier than 33 of the 48 other serif fonts. Ink covers 33.6% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), darker than 41 of the 73 other serif fonts. Strokes change thickness with direction: the sides of o and O are 2.8 times as thick as their tops and bottoms.

Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 46% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 12.3% of its width. The font carries no kerning, so spacing comes from each letter’s own side bearings. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Faceted Bowl Roman will not line up exactly.

Measured from the version 0.1.0 font file. Comparisons are with the 467 library fonts measured on October 6, 2026, 74 of them serif fonts.

Structure
Upright medium-width low-to-medium contrast Roman whose external round bowls share one repeated four-quadrant faceted shell. In O, o, D, C, G, B, P, R, b, d, p, q, a and g, each outside bowl travels through four equal directional zones: at every quarter it has a short straight planar face joined into the next face by a shallow controlled arc, producing a clear four-part outer construction without becoming a regular octagon or a polygonal icon. The inner counter stays an ordinary single connected rounded void. Serifs, shoulders and crossbars repeat the same restrained planar angle rhythm, while letters remain solid connected Roman forms. This alters the exterior bowl construction across cases, rather than changing an inner opening or attaching an effect. It is not Geo Octagon Counter's faceted inner counter, Window Arch Slab, Stepped Arch Deco, Catenary Stem Sans, Zigzag Spine Sans, an outline, 3D treatment, width/weight adjustment, terminal-only change, shadow, stripe or detached decoration
Stroke
