About
About Ledger Slab
Its x-height is 71% of the cap height, near the 69.6% typical of serif fonts in the library, taller than 24 of the 39 other serif fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (100% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 31.2% of the cap height below the baseline, deeper than 30 of the 39 other serif fonts. It sets narrow: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 74% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 90.7%), 13.9% less than the median for serif fonts, so more words fit on a line. The o is close to a circle, 1.00 times as wide as it is tall, and W is the widest capital, at 1.29 times the width of H. Round letters overshoot: O rises 3.3% of the cap height above H and dips 1.6% below the baseline.
The letters stand upright, with no measurable slant. Vertical stems measure 8.3% of the cap height, lighter than 33 of the 35 other serif fonts. Ink covers 25.5% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), lighter than 29 of the 39 other serif fonts. Strokes keep one thickness in every direction: the sides of o and O measure the same as their tops and bottoms.
Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 34.3% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 7.2% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 272 kerning pairs, more than 30 of the 39 other serif fonts. The tightest of them is AY, which closes up by 29.9% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Ledger Slab will not line up exactly.
Ledger Slab is drawn on the same letter structure as 9 other fonts in the library. Compared with Ledger Slab, Carbon Typewriter sets 16% wider and puts down 20% less ink. Banshee Slab adds paint drips and puts down 29% more ink. Harbor Slab puts down 26% more ink.
Measured from the version 0.1.0 font file. Comparisons are with the 314 library fonts measured on October 2, 2026, 40 of them serif fonts.
