About
About Stencil Railway Bold
The x-height is a compact 70.3% of the cap height, below the 74.2% median for stencil fonts, the lowest of all 15 stencil fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (100% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 29.7% of the cap height below the baseline, the deepest of all 15 stencil fonts. It sets narrow: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 77.8% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 77.8%), 5.4% less than the median for stencil fonts, so more words fit on a line. The o is an upright oval, 0.80 times as wide as it is tall, and every capital has the same width. O stands exactly as tall as H and sits on the baseline, with no overshoot.
The letters stand upright, with no measurable slant. Vertical stems measure 11% of the cap height, the lightest of all 15 stencil fonts. Ink covers 26% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), lighter than 12 of the 14 other stencil fonts. Strokes keep one thickness in every direction: the sides of o and O measure the same as their tops and bottoms.
Its 159 characters include 116 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 64 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 37.4% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 31.4% of its width. The font carries no kerning, so spacing comes from each letter’s own side bearings. All ten figures share one width, so columns of numbers line up.
Measured from the version 0.3.1 font file. Comparisons are with the 314 library fonts measured on October 2, 2026, 15 of them stencil fonts.
