About
About Velocity Stripes
With an x-height of 79% of the cap height, its lowercase stands above the 76.2% median for display fonts, taller than 74 of the 97 other display fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l rise 3.3% above the capitals, and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 24.2% of the cap height below the baseline, deeper than 56 of the 97 other display fonts. It sets wide: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 105.6% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 120.8%), 18.1% more than the median for display fonts, so the same words take a longer line. The o is wider than it is tall, 1.45 to 1, and W is the widest capital, at 1.32 times the width of H. O stands exactly as tall as H and sits on the baseline, with no overshoot.
The letters lean about 10° to the right, where most display fonts in the library stand upright. Ink covers 32.5% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), lighter than 75 of the 97 other display fonts. Strokes keep nearly one thickness in every direction: the sides and the tops of o and O differ by 5%. Thin horizontal stripes cut through the lower half of each letter.
Its 2,575 characters include 2,401 Korean Hangul and 105 Latin letters, plus 69 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 42.9% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 5.9% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 111 kerning pairs, more than 66 of the 97 other display fonts. The tightest of them is VA, which closes up by 33.2% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Velocity Stripes will not line up exactly.
Velocity Stripes is drawn on the same letter structure as 9 other fonts in the library. Compared with Velocity Stripes, Bubble Tech Outline draws the letters as hollow outlines and puts down 58% less ink. Orbital Sans keeps the letters plain, without the striped effect, stands upright and sets 8% narrower. Hyper 3D adds a 3D extrusion and puts down 27% more ink.
Measured from the version 0.1.1 font file. Comparisons are with the 314 library fonts measured on October 2, 2026, 98 of them display fonts.
