Gala Script

Its lowercase sits low: the x-height is 45.7% of the cap height, where the median for script fonts is 48.4%, lower than 43 of the 53 other script fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (99% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 52.8% of the cap height below the baseline, deeper than 38 of the 53 other script fonts. Its letters are of average width for script fonts: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 63.8% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 106.7%), within 0.5% of the median. The o is wider than it is tall, 1.55 to 1, and N is the widest capital, at 1.16 times the width of H. The O stops 0.9% of the cap height short of H and sits on the baseline.

The letters lean about 21° to the right. Ink covers 27% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), darker than 33 of the 53 other script fonts.

Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 34.6% of the cap height, and lowercase letters reach 21.9% past their own widths into the space of their neighbours. Spacing is adjusted with 25 kerning pairs, fewer than 43 of the 53 other script fonts. The tightest of them is VA, which closes up by 24% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Gala Script will not line up exactly.
