About
About Pointe Serif
Pointe Serif's lowercase x reaches 69.6% of the capital height, close to the 69.6% median for serif fonts, taller than 19 of the 39 other serif fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (100% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 28.8% of the cap height below the baseline, shallower than 21 of the 39 other serif fonts. Pointe Serif runs 8.4% narrower than the median for serif fonts: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 78.7% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 89.4%). The o is close to a circle, 1.14 times as wide as it is tall, and W is the widest capital, at 1.09 times the width of H. The O stops 2.9% of the cap height short of H and stands 2.9% above the baseline.
The letters stand upright, with no measurable slant. Vertical stems measure 14.7% of the cap height, lighter than 18 of the 35 other serif fonts. Ink covers 24.6% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), lighter than 31 of the 39 other serif fonts.
Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 34.9% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 6.7% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 73 kerning pairs, fewer than 22 of the 39 other serif fonts. The tightest of them is AY, which closes up by 18.2% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Pointe Serif will not line up exactly.
13 other library fonts share Pointe Serif's underlying letter structure. Compared with Pointe Serif, Saga Serif sets 19% wider and puts down 29% more ink. Atelier Light puts down 19% less ink and has a 61% x-height. Vampire Serif adds paint drips, puts down 46% more ink and has a 75% x-height.
Measured from the version 0.1.0 font file. Comparisons are with the 314 library fonts measured on October 2, 2026, 40 of them serif fonts.
