Diamond Terminal Upright Blackletter Letterforms
Gothic Blackline builds its character from tall black stems, narrow openings and diamond-shaped tips. The H links its uprights with a thin, slightly stepped crossbar, while the E breaks its right edge into short angular arms. The R has a faceted upper bowl and a sharply bent leg that finishes in a pointed foot. Thin connecting strokes interrupt the heavier verticals without softening their rigid rhythm. The small o forms a slim upright enclosure with pointed joins, bringing a lower shape into the otherwise towering word silhouette. Together these details give short wording a stern, ceremonial mood with little curling ornament.
Test the font in your wording
Inspect repeated uprights, narrow o counters and the angular R in your actual wording. Check punctuation and letter pairs at the intended size, especially where pointed feet approach adjacent strokes. These specimens show Latin forms; check accented text and other scripts separately for coverage and appearance.
Font pairing roles
Try this face for the main heading with a plain sans serif for supporting text and small labels. Its diamond tips and tightly enclosed bowls supply the ornament; a companion with open counters and simpler joins can keep secondary information distinct.

How this page was made. Gothic Blackline is a FontGenerator library font made with AI; before release its letters were read back one by one by independent automated checks. The design notes were written by AI from the specimen images and checked against them by a second, independent pass; font measurements come from the font file. About
About Gothic Blackline
With an x-height of 78.6% of the cap height, its lowercase stands above the 74.4% median for decorative fonts, taller than 31 of the 36 other decorative fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l rise 6.3% above the capitals, and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 10% of the cap height below the baseline, the shallowest of all 37 decorative fonts. It sets narrow: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 58.7% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 61.4%), 22.9% less than the median for decorative fonts, so more words fit on a line. The o is an upright oval, 0.57 times as wide as it is tall, and W is the widest capital, at 1.53 times the width of H. The O stops 7.9% of the cap height short of H and dips 1.1% below the baseline.
The letters stand upright, leaning less than 2.5° either way. Ink covers 35.7% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), lighter than 20 of the 36 other decorative fonts. The contrast is mild: the sides of o and O are 1.24 times as thick as their tops and bottoms.
Its 95 characters include 52 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; there are no accented Latin letters beyond A to Z. The word space measures 41.6% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 16.8% of its width. The font carries no kerning, so spacing comes from each letter’s own side bearings. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Gothic Blackline will not line up exactly.
Measured from the version 0.3.0 font file. Comparisons are with the 376 published library fonts measured on November 8, 2026, 37 of them decorative fonts.
