Oval Bowl Rounded Foot Letterforms
Ion Velvet Grotesk combines substantial, nearly even strokes with small soft turns in an otherwise upright uppercase silhouette. The O has an oval outer contour and a similarly oval counter, bringing a smooth rhythm between the straight stems. The E rounds its left corners, while the L curves into a flat horizontal foot. These details soften the letters without making their ends look fully pill shaped. The R adds a straight diagonal leg beneath a compact bowl, and the broad W opens the word shape. Together, these forms give short wording a calm, firm presence.
Test the font in your wording
Inspect repeated L feet, oval O counters, and gaps around W and R in your actual wording. Check lowercase and accented Latin separately, since these specimens show uppercase Latin. For other scripts, inspect a specimen rendered with this font before judging appearance or coverage.
Font pairing roles
Try this font for short headings or labels, where its substantial strokes and softened E and L corners remain apparent. Pair it with a lighter serif for supporting text, using the serif's stroke contrast to distinguish longer reading passages from the steady heading shapes.

Its 345 characters include 245 Latin letters, plus 100 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 193 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 30.2% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 14.8% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 10,920 kerning pairs, the most of all 35 sans serif fonts. The tightest of them is Yd, which closes up by 30.6% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Ion Velvet Grotesk will not line up exactly.
Measured from the version 0.1.0 font file. Comparisons are with the 376 published library fonts measured on November 8, 2026, 35 of them sans serif fonts.
