About
About Memo Italic Mono
Memo Italic Mono's lowercase x reaches 69.4% of the capital height, close to the 70.2% median for monospace fonts, lower than 16 of the 19 other monospace fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (100% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 31.5% of the cap height below the baseline, level with the deepest of the 20 monospace fonts. Its letters are of average width for monospace fonts: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 86% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 86%), within 0% of the median. The o is close to a circle, 1.01 times as wide as it is tall, and every capital has the same width. Round letters overshoot: O rises 3.3% of the cap height above H and dips 1.6% below the baseline.
The letters lean about 9° to the right, where most monospace fonts in the library stand upright. Vertical stems measure 8% of the cap height, the lightest of all 16 monospace fonts. Ink covers 19% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), lighter than 16 of the 19 other monospace fonts. It is close to monoline, with the sides of o and O 0.97 times as thick as their tops and bottoms.
Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 86% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 27.3% of its width. The font carries no kerning, so spacing comes from each letter’s own side bearings. All ten figures share one width, so columns of numbers line up.
9 other library fonts share Memo Italic Mono's underlying letter structure. Compared with Memo Italic Mono, Retro Byte Slab rebuilds the letters on a pixel grid, stands upright and sets 14% narrower. Timber Slab stands upright, sets 19% narrower and puts down 128% more ink. Ledger Slab stands upright, sets 14% narrower and puts down 34% more ink.
Measured from the version 0.1.0 font file. Comparisons are with the 314 library fonts measured on October 2, 2026, 20 of them monospace fonts.
