Rally Sans

With an x-height of 79.6% of the cap height, its lowercase stands above the 76.2% median for display fonts, taller than 77 of the 97 other display fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l rise 3.1% above the capitals, and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 21.4% of the cap height below the baseline, shallower than 71 of the 97 other display fonts. It sets wide: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 94.6% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 104.7%), 5.8% more than the median for display fonts, so the same words take a longer line. The o is close to a circle, 1.14 times as wide as it is tall, and W is the widest capital, at 1.20 times the width of H. Round letters overshoot: O rises 1% of the cap height above H and dips 1% below the baseline.

Ink covers 44.1% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), darker than 58 of the 97 other display fonts. Each solid letter is ringed by an outline with a clear gap between them, as on college lettering.

Its 3,329 characters include 2,967 Chinese, 170 Japanese kana and 105 Latin letters, plus 87 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 34.1% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 10% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 67 kerning pairs, fewer than 53 of the 97 other display fonts. The tightest of them is TA, which closes up by 23.2% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Rally Sans will not line up exactly.

Rally Sans is drawn on the same letter structure as 19 other fonts in the library. Compared with Rally Sans, Lobby Deco keeps the letters plain, without the varsity effect, sets 17% narrower and has a 73% x-height. Giggle Sans keeps the letters plain, without the varsity effect. Garrison Stencil adds military stencil bridges and puts down 19% less ink.
