Bunker Stencil

With an x-height of 80.6% of the cap height, its lowercase stands above the 74.2% median for stencil fonts, the tallest of all 15 stencil fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l rise 3.4% above the capitals, and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 24% of the cap height below the baseline, level with the shallowest of the 15 stencil fonts. It sets wide: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 102.5% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 114.4%), 24.7% more than the median for stencil fonts, so the same words take a longer line. The o is wider than it is tall, 1.24 to 1, and W is the widest capital, at 1.28 times the width of H. Round letters overshoot: O rises 1.1% of the cap height above H and dips 1.1% below the baseline.

The letters stand upright, with no measurable slant. Vertical stems measure 20% of the cap height, level with the heaviest of the 15 stencil fonts. Ink covers 39.4% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), darker than 13 of the 14 other stencil fonts. Bridges cut through junctions, sharp corners and the tops of open curves, as on a military stencil plate.

Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 40.9% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 16.2% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 96 kerning pairs, more than 9 of the 14 other stencil fonts. The tightest of them is AY, which closes up by 25.6% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Bunker Stencil will not line up exactly.

Bunker Stencil is drawn on the same letter structure as 12 other fonts in the library. Compared with Bunker Stencil, Bulwark Block keeps the letters plain, without the military stencil effect, sets 8% wider and puts down 24% more ink. Arcade Inline cuts a thin line along each stroke. Mezzanine Deco keeps the letters plain, without the military stencil effect, puts down 25% less ink and has a 73% x-height.
