Design
Salon Italic up close
Salon Italic sets broad, leaning capitals with generous space between them. The O is nearly round, with dark sides and fine curves across its top and bottom. The R has a crisp bowl and a leg that drops into a small curled hook. In the W, heavy diagonal strokes meet much finer lines. Long, sharp serifs carry the eye across each word. The shifts between thick and thin give the lettering an airy, formal feel, while the curled R adds a touch of ornament.

How this page was made. Salon Italic is a FontGenerator library font made with AI; before release its letters were read back one by one by independent automated checks. About
About Salon Italic
Its x-height is 68.3% of the cap height, near the 69.5% typical of serif fonts in the library, lower than 39 of the 52 other serif fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (100% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 32.6% of the cap height below the baseline, deeper than 48 of the 52 other serif fonts. It sets wide: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 89.7% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 109.4%), 6.9% more than the median for serif fonts, so the same words take a longer line. The o is close to a circle, 0.98 times as wide as it is tall, and M is the widest capital, at 1.04 times the width of H. Round letters overshoot: O rises 0.9% of the cap height above H and dips 0.9% below the baseline.
The letters lean roughly 15° to the right, where most serif fonts in the library stand upright. Vertical stems measure 13.7% of the cap height, lighter than 28 of the 45 other serif fonts. Ink covers 25.5% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), lighter than 36 of the 52 other serif fonts.
Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 34.8% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 5.4% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 1 kerning pairs, fewer than 37 of the 52 other serif fonts. The tightest of them is YA, which closes up by 22.3% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Salon Italic will not line up exactly.
Salon Italic is drawn on the same letter structure as 2 other fonts in the library. Compared with Salon Italic, Chronicle Italic Nib adds Afrikaans, Bosnian, Filipino and 8 more languages. Parlor Serif puts down 42% more ink and adds Azerbaijani, Bosnian, Filipino and 5 more languages.
Measured from the version 0.1.1 font file. Comparisons are with the 377 published library fonts measured on October 14, 2026, 53 of them serif fonts.
