Its x-height is 50.1% of the cap height, near the 48.4% typical of script fonts in the library, taller than 34 of the 53 other script fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (99.3% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 48.6% of the cap height below the baseline, shallower than 34 of the 53 other script fonts. Its letters are of average width for script fonts: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 62% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 107.8%), within 3.3% of the median. The o is wider than it is tall, 1.45 to 1, and N is the widest capital, at 1.16 times the width of H. The O stops 0.7% of the cap height short of H and sits on the baseline.

Ink covers 19.4% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), lighter than 41 of the 53 other script fonts. The letters are hollow: every stroke is drawn as a thin outline band.

Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 33.9% of the cap height, and lowercase letters reach 29.2% past their own widths into the space of their neighbours. Spacing is adjusted with 43 kerning pairs, fewer than 34 of the 53 other script fonts. The tightest of them is TA, which closes up by 30.4% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Tinsel Outline will not line up exactly.

Tinsel Outline is drawn on the same letter structure as 13 other fonts in the library. Compared with Tinsel Outline, Notary Script keeps the letters plain, without the outline effect and has a 45% x-height. Starlit Script keeps the letters plain, without the outline effect, sets 19% wider and puts down 17% more ink. Soiree Script keeps the letters plain, without the outline effect, sets 9% narrower and puts down 33% more ink.
