About
About Wacky Wide
Wacky Wide's lowercase x reaches 74.5% of the capital height, close to the 73.3% median for handwriting fonts, taller than 15 of the 21 other handwriting fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (98.9% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 27.8% of the cap height below the baseline, deeper than 15 of the 21 other handwriting fonts. Wacky Wide runs 16.3% wider than the median for handwriting fonts: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 87% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 98.9%). The o is close to a circle, 1.14 times as wide as it is tall, and W is the widest capital, at 1.11 times the width of H. The O rises 2.4% of the cap height above H and stands 3.9% above the baseline.
Vertical stems measure 18.9% of the cap height, heavier than 9 of the 11 other handwriting fonts. Ink covers 41.6% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), darker than 16 of the 21 other handwriting fonts. It is close to monoline, with the sides of o and O 1.03 times as thick as their tops and bottoms.
Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 38.4% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 10.4% of its width. Spacing is adjusted with 123 kerning pairs, more than 15 of the 21 other handwriting fonts. The tightest of them is AY, which closes up by 25.5% of the cap height. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Wacky Wide will not line up exactly.
8 other library fonts share Wacky Wide's underlying letter structure. Compared with Wacky Wide, Zany Comic sets 19% narrower and has a 80% x-height. Inkpot Comic sets 17% narrower. Kapow 3D adds a 3D extrusion and sets 12% narrower.
Measured from the version 0.1.0 font file. Comparisons are with the 314 library fonts measured on October 2, 2026, 22 of them handwriting fonts.
