About

About Window Arch Slab

Its x-height is 70.6% of the cap height, near the 71.2% typical of serif fonts in the library, lower than 39 of the 73 other serif fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (98.7% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 26.9% of the cap height below the baseline, shallower than 47 of the 73 other serif fonts. It sets narrow: an average lowercase letter, spacing included, is 75.2% as wide as the capitals are tall (an average capital, 81.5%), 9.6% less than the median for serif fonts, so more words fit on a line. The o is an upright oval, 0.82 times as wide as it is tall, and M is the widest capital, at 1.20 times the width of H. Round letters overshoot: O rises 2.7% of the cap height above H and dips 1.1% below the baseline.

The letters stand upright, with no measurable slant. Vertical stems measure 21.3% of the cap height, heavier than 40 of the 48 other serif fonts. Ink covers 46% of each lowercase letter's box (its advance width by the cap height), darker than 64 of the 73 other serif fonts. Strokes change thickness with direction: the sides of o and O are 1.7 times as thick as their tops and bottoms.

Its 148 characters include 105 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 53 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 46% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 13.2% of its width. The font carries no kerning, so spacing comes from each letter’s own side bearings. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Window Arch Slab will not line up exactly.

Measured from the version 0.1.0 font file. Comparisons are with the 467 library fonts measured on October 6, 2026, 74 of them serif fonts.

Structure
Upright medium-width slab serif with substantial square unbracketed slab serifs: every serif joins its stem directly with a crisp ninety-degree meeting, including capitals, lowercase, numerals, and punctuation. Stems and bowls are solid black. B, D, P, R, b, d, p, q, and the enclosed interiors of a and g use one recurring tall window counter: straight vertical sidewalls rise into a rounded arch at the top, remain open inside the normal bowl, and return to the baseline without a bridge or outline. Use real lowercase proportions, a double-storey a, open e, conventional k fork, N diagonal, and a descender on g. No western spur, typewriter rhythm, inline, outline, shadow, stripe, stencil cut, floating serif, or heart decoration
