How glitch text is made
Glitch text, also called zalgo text, stacks combining marks on every letter. These are the accents and strokes that normally sit on letters such as é or ñ; stacking many of them makes the text look corrupted.
Heavy glitch text can overlap the lines above and below it and may be cut off by apps that limit character counts, because every mark counts as a character. If a platform rejects it, use the light level.
Your text gets the same marks each time you type it, so you can come back and copy an identical result.
Questions
- Why does my glitch text look different in another app?
- Each app decides how tall to draw stacked marks. Some clip them to the line, others let them spill over. The characters are the same.
- Why was my glitch username rejected?
- Many platforms limit name length or block combining marks. Try the light level, which adds the fewest marks, or glitch only part of the name.
- Is glitch text readable by screen readers?
- Poorly. Screen readers may read every mark or skip the word. Avoid it for information people need.
