Where each style works on Instagram

Your bio, name, captions, comments and direct messages all accept these characters. Your @username does not: it allows only letters, numbers, full stops and underscores. Story text has its own fonts, but pasted styles still show there, which lets you mix a script line with Instagramโ€™s own type.

Search matters on Instagram: the Name field is searchable, and people search plain words. Keep your real name plain in the Name field and style a word or two of your bio instead. Hashtags must stay plain to be clickable and found.

The result is plain Unicode text, so it pastes anywhere that accepts text: Instagram and TikTok bios, Discord names, X posts, and game tags. Some apps and older phones lack these characters and show empty boxes instead.

How do I change the font of my Instagram bio?
Instagram has no font setting for bios. Type your bio here, copy a style, then open Edit profile and paste it into Bio. The style is part of the text, so it shows for everyone.
Can I use a fancy font in my Instagram name?
Yes, in the Name field. Your @username only allows plain letters, numbers, full stops and underscores, so it cannot use these styles.
Do fancy fonts hurt my reach?
Instagram does not penalise them, but search does not match styled letters to plain words, and screen readers may read them letter by letter. Style decoration, and keep names, keywords and hashtags plain.
